The ACSI2STM is an open-source hard drive emulator that allows Atari ST computers to use SD cards as storage devices. Traditionally, this device connects externally via the ACSI port, which can lead to clutter and potential wear on connectors.

To address this, we developed two riser boards that enable the internal installation of the ACSI2STM Compact device inside Atari Mega ST and Mega STE computers. This lets you integrate the ACSI2STM seamlessly into the machine, removing the external connection and external powering, and preserving the original aesthetics of the computer.

Important: the riser boards connect to the ACSI2STM Compact model using the 20-pin connector at the back of the device, commonly called the "Satan Disk" connector. Your ACSI2STM unit must include this connector. All ACSI2STM models produced by SidecarTridge come with it, though it may not be pre-soldered. Compatibility with devices from other manufacturers cannot be guaranteed.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there separate riser boards for the Mega ST and Mega STE?
Each board is designed to fit the internal architecture of its corresponding model. The Mega ST board also includes a Dupont wire connector to power the ACSI2STM from the Atari power supply.

Do I need to remove the internal metal shielding?
On some Atari Mega ST units it may be necessary to remove the internal metal shielding to make enough room for the riser board and the ACSI2STM Compact assembly. Some Mega ST computers have enough internal clearance, others do not. This does not apply to the Mega STE version. In practice that shielding no longer serves much purpose today; it was mainly intended to reduce radio-frequency interference back when these machines sat next to television receivers and similar equipment.

How is the ACSI2STM powered when installed internally?
The riser boards power the ACSI2STM internally, with no external power source needed. The included USB-A to USB-C cable connects the riser board's USB-A power-only connector to the ACSI2STM USB-C port. The Mega ST riser board also includes a female-to-female Dupont connector to power the ACSI2STM from the Atari power supply.

Can I use the riser boards with an ACSI2STM from another manufacturer?
The riser boards are designed for the ACSI2STM Compact model with a 20-pin connector at the back of the device. If your unit has a standard 20-pin connector, it should work. Compatibility with devices from other manufacturers, or with other ACSI2STM models, cannot be guaranteed. Use at your own risk.

Is this product for me?
This is a homebrew product for hobbyists who enjoy experimenting with their computers. If you want a sealed, appliance-like experience, this is not it.
